TRUE PERU EXPERIENCE
Cusco Travel FAQs
I'm arriving in Cusco for the first time and I'm worried about the altitude. What do you recommend?
We totally get it. To help you acclimatize smoothly, we highly recommend starting with easier activities. Our Private Cusco City Tour or the Classic Sacred Valley Tour (which is at a lower altitude than Cusco) are perfect options for your first 1-2 days. Our guides also monitor your well-being and always carry oxygen just in case.
Are your tours truly private, or will we be combined with others?
We specialize in private tours. When you book a private experience with us, it means exactly that: just you, your group, your dedicated guide, and your private driver. This allows for complete flexibility and a much more intimate experience. (We only offer a shared option for the Machu Picchu Full Day tour).
We want a private tour, but can we customize the itinerary or start times?
Absolutely! That's the beauty of traveling with us. Our listed tours are starting points. We can adjust the timing, add specific stops (like local markets or unique viewpoints), or change the pace to suit your interests and energy levels.
How do these tours connect with a visit to Machu Picchu?
Seamlessly. Many travelers explore the Sacred Valley before heading to Machu Picchu. Tours like the Sacred Valley + Picnic or the Classic Sacred Valley can end in Ollantaytambo, where you catch the train to Aguas Calientes. This saves travel time and helps with acclimatization. We handle all the logistics.
I'm interested in the Sacred Valley, but I'm overwhelmed by the options. Which tour is right for me?
We can help! If you want the highlights (Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero), choose the Classic Private Tour. If you want everything plus Maras and Moray in one comprehensive day, choose the VIP Sacred Valley Tour. If you prefer a relaxed pace focusing on Maras/Moray with an amazing lunch, choose the Sacred Valley + Picnic.
Are the entrance fees (Boleto Turístico) included in the tour prices?
For most of our Cusco and Sacred Valley tours, the entrance fees (Boleto Turístico, Cathedral, Maras Salt Mines, etc.) are not included by default. However, for your convenience, you can easily add them to your reservation during the booking process.
How far in advance should I book, especially for Machu Picchu?
We recommend booking as early as possible. Machu Picchu tickets and premium train times (like the Vistadome) often sell out 2-4 months in advance, especially during high season (May-September). For day tours around Cusco, earlier is always better to ensure guide availability.
I've heard there are different "circuits" at Machu Picchu. Which one do we get?
Great question. Yes, Machu Picchu has implemented several circuits to manage crowds. We always aim to secure the best possible route, typically Circuit 2 (the classic route with the iconic panoramic views). However, availability changes rapidly. Booking early is key to getting the best options!
Your tours mention "personalized attention." What does that actually look like during the trip?
It means the tour moves entirely at your pace. Want to spend an extra 20 minutes taking photos? No problem. Have a question about local culture? Your guide is there just for you. It also means we are available 24/7 via WhatsApp for any support you need during your time in Peru.
What makes your guides different?
Our guides are local hosts who live and breathe Andean culture. They are passionate storytellers, not just guides reciting facts. They provide genuine insight into local traditions and history, bringing the destinations to life in a way you can't get from a guidebook.
I'm interested in the Rainbow Mountain hike, but I'm worried about the difficulty. Which option is best?
If you're concerned about the physical demand or the crowds, we highly recommend the Palccoyo tour. It offers stunning multi-colored landscapes similar to Vinicunca, but the hike is much shorter (about 40 minutes), significantly flatter, and much less crowded.
How does True Peru Experience support local communities?
We are committed to responsible tourism. We work directly with local communities (like the weavers in Chinchero and the communities near our treks), ensuring fair compensation. We prioritize locally-owned restaurants and services, ensuring that your visit has a positive economic impact.
